Ayurveda is a complex, ancient health care tradition originating in India where the practice can be traced back thousands of years and is still widely used today. The basic principles of Ayurveda are that the mind and body are intrinsically linked. To maintain internal balance and harmony with nature and the Universe one must balance the body holistically. There are many factors including genetic defects, injuries, climatic and seasonal changes, age and emotions that may disrupt this delicate balance between the internal and external world. Ayurveda defines the constitution of the body in 3 categories or doshas. Each person is comprised of a combination of the 3; Vata, Pitta and Kapha Dosha. Each of the Dosha’s will present with a different set of symptoms and ailments and will therefore be treated accordingly. Ayurveda seeks to maintain balance in the doshas through diet, yogic practice and meditation.
