MORNING YOGA SESSIONS
7:30 am – Meditation and Breathwork Practice for all levels
Samahita follows a holistic approach to yoga which aims to ground students properly and help them grow from within. The day starts with a sitting meditation practice of contemplation coupled with dedicated breathwork practices. This is excellent technique to learn and take home which can be done anywhere and provides a great way to handle stress and improve health.
8 am – Morning asana class options
Depending on your level and amount of previous experience with yoga, Samahita tries to offer separate classes for different levels. This may vary depending on the numbers and the in-house program.
For those newer to yoga there will either be a simple guided Ashtanga based class, meaning the classical poses are taught and encouraged to be memorized, flowing from breath to breath. This is an excellent start to yoga and a real practice. From here it is possible to leave with the basics of a practice, take it home with you and continue it at another studio or be able to practice yourself while alone. From here it is easy to participate in the ashtanga self-practice classes, known as “Mysore style”.
On some days, there may be a gentle class that includes some flow, basic Hatha Asanas, technique and detailed explanation. This can help you understand better and begin to learn more about the practice of Yoga. The Ashtanga mysore style, in particular-is a very thorough approach to the practice of yoga. The sequence begins with basic postures, later opening up and revealing its depth as students continue to practice. The Mysore approach works with students individually, so that they progress according to their level. A beginner starts with only a few poses, gradually adding more and more as the practice develops and your proficiency and commitment evolve. This ensures that your always challenged and growing while, at the same time, practicing at the appropriate level.
For newcomers to the Ashtanga series, a minimum of one week’s stay is recommended. Those with experience in practice can do shorter stays. The minimum stay is three days. All are encouraged to do longer stays, as the teaching can then fully sink in and practice can begin to reveal itself.
AFTERNOON RESTORATIVE SESSION
5:00 pm – Restorative-Yin-Hatha Yoga with breathe work class
These afternoon restorative classes alternate throughout the week on themes of gentle flow, yin, basic Hatha and qigong and are a rich addition to guests yoga holiday. All involve a certain amount of breathworke practice. Gentle-flow yoga classes are light yet detailed and enjoyable. The classes are guided by the teacher, and students of any level can participate. They are perfect for those who want to take it easy in asana, but still be (mildly) challenged, or for those doing a detox program.
Yin Restorative yoga is a blissful, gentle, deeply healing and meditative practice. It is ideal for relieving stress and tension and works on the connective tissues and internal systems of the body. All Asanas are seated or reclining and maintained for a few minutes, supported by props as need be. Hatha basics explore the fundamentals of Yoga. Asanas (postures) are held for longer time with attention to details of alignment and often with rest phases between postures. Basic inversion poses may be included.
Qigong happens when veteran yogini, Dorien, now in her 60s, is on site. She shares with you the basics of this Taoist practice that is both healing and energizing, involving soft whole body movements with synchronized breathing. All our other teachers are dedicated to the practice and life of yoga. Our intention for your yoga holiday is to offer a thorough, clean, and, of course, enjoyable approach to learning and practicing yoga.

Samahita is a modern and sophisticated retreat center located on the scenic island of Koh Samui, Thailand. The resort offers guests elegant accommodation and facilities on its beautiful beach front location, including a swimming pool, Health Spa, Fitness Centre and other amenities.
The resort offers both Yoga, Detox and Wellness programs suitable for beginners and experienced detoxers alike. The retreats range from 3, 5, 7, 10 and 14 days with both scheduled and flexible start dates that combine yoga, breathe work and other holistic therapies for maximum health gains and benefits. The schedule is easy to follow, incorporates free time to relax and enjoy the facilities or explore this stunning island.
Samahita offers a laid back, positive and supportive environment where you can enjoy their detox program with the support of the experienced and professional team. The staff is dedicated to the personal growth of each and every individual.
The swimming pool is located right on the beach, with plenty of sun beds and a large shallow area for children.
In keeping with Samahita’s efforts to stay as close to nature as possible, it is a saltwater pool, which is easier on your eyes, hair, skin, and internal organs than chlorinated water.
“Yoga shala,” in Sanskrit, denotes the room or practice area where yogic practices take place. Many of the old yogic texts, in particular, Hatha yoga ones, offer guidelines on how to design such a structure. Taking into account old wisdom and modern knowledge, the shala is the central feature of Samahita Retreat and the hub of all activity.
Guests are welcome to use Samahita’s Retreat facilities, including the steam room, at no additional charge. The best time for steam is later in the day while enjoying the sunset and the early part of the night. To get the most out of it, you can alternate between dips in the sea or pool and five-to-ten minute sessions in the steam room. Sign up in advance is required.
Samahita Wellness Center offers a number of wellness programs for detoxification and general health and well-being.
Next to the dining area is a beachside lounge opening onto the beach, with panoramic views and gentle sea breezes. This area is equipped with a full-size screen for video presentations and movies, a library, and relaxation cushions. An offshoot from it is an extended private shala at the water’s edge.
Samahita Retreat sits directly on the beach, just steps away from calm, warm water ideal for swimming (though when the tide is low during the summer months, you might prefer to take long swims in our saltwater swimming pool).
We have created next to our yoga shala a garden for quiet contemplation, fire ceremony, and other ritual practices, as well as meditation sessions.

For me the best of all the experience was to appreciate the value of breathing and meditation. One week in Samahita made me more aware of my existence. The place is paradise, and food is more than delicious. I enjoy knowing people from all over the world.
This was my second (and my wife's first) visit to Samahita Retreat and we loved everything about our stay. I think I was even more impressed with this place after our recent visit than I was first time round (and I loved it then!). Paul Dallaghan and his wife Jutima have created the perfect environment for the enhancement of one's well-being. From the moment we were greeted with a massive smile by the General Manager, Axel, soon after our arrival we knew it would be a special week. Whether you want to deepen your yoga practice, improve your fitness, detox or just relax this place cannot be bettered. The quality of the teaching/instruction offered is second to none, the food is heavenly, there is attention to every detail throughout the facilities and all the staff are incredibly friendly, kind and helpful. And of course, the location is fabulous! We attended a 6 day advanced teacher training retreat with the Yoga Academy and found the course to be truly transformational (and we have both been practicing yoga for many years). And the fellow students we met were wonderful. A real honour to have spent time with such lovely folk at such a special place. If your goal is to pursue the path of yoga, Samahita Retreat is the real deal. It is authentic but in no way pretentious and carries this off with a lightness of touch that makes everyone feel comfortable and welcome whatever one's background or experience. Thank you Samahita, we will be back.
Samahita is located in the south of the island, in a secluded and quiet part of the island, away from tourists which made it perfect for a relaxing retreat. I stayed for four nights at Samahita and I wished I stayed longer. I was a solo traveller and met lots of other solo travellers who were really lovely.
I had a private room with a private bathroom. The room was comfortable, clean and the shower was excellent. The staff were professional and friendly. The food was so filling, healthy, of high quality and tasty - I couldn't believe it was vegetarian. There is a bar where you can purchase extra juices, coffees or food but I didn't need to as there was so much food on offer and I was never hungry.
The yoga core cycle programme was excellent. If you are looking for a balance between meditation, yoga and fitness then this is the place to go. I would highly recommend it for beginners to intermediate yogi practitioners. Though I saw advanced yogis who took part in the self-practice with a guided instructor. Samahita organised little afternoon/evening trips which were complimentary. The fitness and yoga instructors were knowledgeable and brilliant. It is also okay to opt in or out of different activities.
The resort has a lovely pool area and a private sandy beach. I had two spa treatments and I would highly recommend the spa. Though it is more expensive relative to Thailand, the professionalism, ambiance and quality of the service made it all the worth while.
Overall I would say that this retreat offers a value for money yet high quality programme and retreat and I have been raving about it to all my friends and family.
The perfect place for body and mind to relax and rejuvenate. Away from the world yet connected. Peaceful and blissful. Good staff and service. clean spacious rooms and activities with amazing teachers. Alex the manager is around to answer all your questions and help you out. The food is very healthy and the chef will keep you what u want with a smile just tell them they look beautiful in Thai and see them
Smile. If u looking for some quote time to reflect and workout ur body and mind than look no further. U just just don't want to leave. It's addictive.
If you are searching for the perfect yoga hideaway - this is your place.
I stayed there for Christmas/NewYears Retreat 2016/17 and found everything way over my expectations.
The yoga shala - placed in between a tranquil meditation garden and the sea - is airy and spaceous. World class yoga teaching, straight focussed an what is really important to improve one owns practice. Core & restorative classes that are very well designed and helpful to build strength needed for asana.
Fresh, very tasteful and with loving care prepared food and desserts and if you want to, super smoothies, absolutely worth to be paid for separately.
The girls from the spa are hilarious and adorable and I made extensive use of the offered massages, facials, pedicures....loved it. If you still might feel any inconvenience there is even a wonderful nurse to help you out of that.
The rooms are quiet, cosy and very well taken care of by a superb housekeeping.
When arriving reception makes you feel very welcome and is anytime answering any question or resolving any issue one might have.
All in all its easy chic but highclass - a place you can easily loose your heart and return to.
Thanks from Vienna,
Samahita is an amazing place to just be. It's a place to rebalance mind and body, while enjoying great food and the location right on the beach. I keep returning to Samahita for the yoga, but also for everything else.
I stayed at Samahita Retreat to attend "Connect into the Essence of Your Practice" with Marilou van Hoek. It was a magical experience, jam-packed with an itinerary of Ashtanga Yoga: Pranayama, Asanas, Meditation, whilst still having time to connect with great people over delicious, healthy meals, a boat trip to a neighboring island, a beach walk to sacred sites, and evening trips to night markets. The accommodations were clean and minimalist. There is a diverse selection of massage and wellness treatments available and the steam room + pool provides ultimate relaxation. My mother joined me and while she did not partake in the yoga, she enjoyed all the other activities with our dynamic group, and benefited from the massage treatments and amenities. Marilou is a very warm, positive, and knowledgeable instructor. Overall, a very memorable experience and i am still buzzing from it!
I couldn't be more pleased with my experience at Samahtia Retreat. I have been to tons of wellness retreats over the years and have been searching for the one that hits all the marks with excellence. If you are looking to find the BEST wellness retreat, I can tell you from all the ones I have been to, nothing will top this place! Samahita has a few different programs they offer and I came to do a candida cleanse. Most other places I do a detox or a fitness/yoga style retreat, but Samahita was the first place to help me address the root of my health issues and learning about Candida. They were so informative and knowledgeable about every single aspect to be sure I received the proper care while on site, and to take home with me.
Here's some of the things I look for in a wellness retreat...
1. The Program Itself...Samahita not only offers a specific intake program with the diet, supplements, and other herbal remedies, it also adds in so many essential practices to open up your body's own intelligence to heal itself. The breath work and yoga classes were extremely beneficial and perfect for beginners or experts to learn more about how to heal yourself and take thing information home with you. Super easy yet powerful!
2. The Staff...a lot of wellness centers treat their guests like robots and like to just crank them in and out of there and make their money. When I tell you every single member of the staff here gives you top quality care, I mean it. They were so pleasant, kind and caring. They pay attention to all details on your exact program and know exactly how to care for you while you are detoxing or not feeling well.
3. The spa treatments....the spa treatments are definitely 5 star and there is a large spa menu to pick from. Again the staff is very pleasant and caring and knows how to do their job properly.
4. Location & Accommodation....Beautiful grounds located directly on the beach in a quiet peaceful setting is the perfect place to unwind. The rooms were very nice, clean, quiet, with comfy beds and enough space to get unpacked nice and stay organized.
5. The price...When you factor in everything that comes with the program, I felt the price was extremely reasonable. You get lots of work outs, yoga, and breath work included, spa treatments, food, all your supplements (depending on what program you are on) and a great room right on the beach. I would have been happy to pay even more for the quality I feel I received.
I could go on and on about all the components that I feel Samahita has mastered. I feel strongly suggesting this retreat to anyone who is shopping around.
