If you’re looking for a relaxing/recharging/life-changing experience, this is the place.
In this little bit of heaven on earth, I indulged and relaxed every day: exquisite massages, eye opening coaching sessions, swimming in one of the pools, reading books on the beach etc... Just before being fed with amazing healthy meals.
After being pampered for so many days, I finally let go of stress and exhaustion. And I had brain space, which meant that I came up with my brand new (business) idea and made a few healthy decisions to live a different life vs the one I was in before I entered Kamalaya.
After my wife and I spent 5 week holiday in Australia wining and dining our bodies were in desperate need for revitalisation.
We elected to go onto the basic detox programme for 7 days.
Everything was first class from start to finish.
We stayed in a Hillside Seaview Room which had everything you need.
The programme was well planned for both the treatments and the supplements.
The food quality and choice were excellent. (Couldn't enjoy it all as on the Detox programme)
Whilst the site is hilly it is easy to manoeuvre around and golf buggy rides are available if one finds the going tough. (day 2/3 of the programme)
The staff both in the Wellness Centre and the restaurants are absolutely fantastic and spoil each and every guest.
I initially went to support my wife but after day 2 I was converted to the programme.
So much so that we will both add an extra week at the end of any indulgent holiday to recoup
A must do experience.
If you are looking for a recharge and kickstart to a healthier and more mindful lifestyle then there is nowhere better than Kamalaya. I spent 10 nights relaxing and enjoying life, attending a daily yoga class, paddleboarding, sunning myself on a lovely beach, making new friends and dropping a few dress sizes. The staff were incredible. My mind was also opened up to more holistic therapies and wellness approaches and tools that will stay with me forever! I can't wait to return to Kamalaya.
Amazingly well run and THE place if you want to recharge your batteries, eat healthy and heal. The site on a hillside offers amazing views and the staff are unparalleled. That goes for everyone from the wait staff at the restaurant to the trainers in the gym to the massage therapists and wellness professionals.
I stayed in Kamalaya for 4 weeks and dream everyday of coming back there. This place is really special, not only with the outstanding kitchen and treatment facilities, but also the rooms are large and luxurious. After 4 weeks I got rid of my Diabetes and lost 15 KG fat in the most convenient way you can do. Nothings else to say than - go there and experience it for yourself.
Perfect place to spend quality time with a loved one or to connect with your inner self. I have been here 10 times now and never tire of the setting, food, treatments - everything! A very special place.if you are on your own, no problem, there are lots of singles but also a romantic place for couples! The setting is amazing , food fabulous and treatments fabulous!
Let me say three days was not enough. I signed up for the three day "intro to detox" package. Within 12 hours of being here I wish I had booked more time and signed up for the 5 day package. However, I would say if you live close by as I do (in Singapore) and it's a choice between not going at all and the 3 days, take the 3 days.
I arrived on Thursday evening late (around 9p). I was greeted right at the exit of the airport by the Kamalaya representative, and we were on our way. I checked in, was brought to my room, where a late dinner was waiting for me on the dining room table. This is just the first of many examples of the great customer service, and how your every need is thought of and anticipated.
I was a bit worried about this "detox" program, being my first time. But everything was carefully explained to me. The treatments were amazing, in beautiful rooms.
And the FOOD - WOW! Who knew healthy "detox" food could taste so great? I am still craving it a week later. I was told any recipe is available, just ask the restaurant staff or email the chef directly. I am planning to do just that, but sure I won't get close to the great dishes I had.
A note about being a solo traveller-- This is one of the first places I truly felt comfortable as a solo traveller. I really don't mind, but I find most places I will travel to I will be pretty much the only person there alone (or at least feel that way). There were several other people staying here solo, making it very comfortable to sit alone at meals in the restaurants. There is also a communal table for those who would like a little company at meal times. This is a really nice touch among many here.
Overall, I can't say enough about this resort. I am fortunate to travel a lot for work and pleasure, and stay in very nice resorts. This tops my list. Great location, facilities, spa, and the best of the best staff.
Like I said in my title - I am just trying to figure out when I can back again to this paradise...
So many positive reviews have been written about Kamalaya and they are all absolutely 100% accurate. I would like to share my experience from a different perspective. Kamalaya is about changing your life through many of their programs and although you may read this and think this is cliche statement, I myself was not a true believer until the last day. The nature of my journey is somewhat personal, I was looking for answers to questions that I never believed Kamalaya would answer, but let's just say, I met some amazing people who changed my view on life, people who were just so beautiful, it's a rare thing in this world. Also some things happened to me, things I cannot explain on this website, but they were events that you stand back and think 'wow' is this really happening, makes you think there is a higher being and I'm not religious. Many people I met stated that Kamalaya has this amazing energy, so many people experience it, but just cannot put their finger on it, but whatever it is, it's unbelievable. I will literally looking back on this last 7 days as a life changing event for me, thank you Kamalaya and to all the amazing guests that stay there, you are truly changing lives.
Lastly, to that special person whom I met on the boat trip, you are a gift.
There should be a moratorium on reviewing Kamalaya until way after the fact, because its benefits aren't always felt immediately.
I was sceptical about the idea of a detox, having harboured some very conventional ideas of the functions of our internal organs in regulating and flushing out 'toxins,' (wherever and whatever they may be) but for the cynical amongst us it helps not to take the term too literally. The diet, which I stuck to for 10 days, was brutal on paper - no wheat, no gluten, no dairy, no meat, no high-sugar fruit (bananas, kiwis, mangoes), no alcohol, no animal protein. In practice, and given that I already ate relatively healthily, it wasn't a massive stretch for me - the food was inventive (the things they can do with mung beans would make your head spin), well-prepared and delicious. I must stress that the menu got very tired after the 7-day mark though. When I finally broke and switched to the normal menu - oh my sweet Jesus the food was fantastic. I'm glad I held out as long as I could, because the benefits were wide-ranging, but yaysus these guys can really cook.
During the detox a whole host of problems that hadn't reared their heads in years came back to the fore - I was told that this was normal during the process, and it felt about right. It was unpleasant, sure, but I had the prevailing feeling that it was cathartic. In the meantime, the treatments were a nice distraction. I was concerned about the quality of my sleep, and with the help of various practitioners, we figured out the problem.
After the crutch of alcohol had been taken away, the social aspect of the retreat didn't work for me at all, but that was entirely my own fault. It's made me feel completely differently about drinking though - it's now gone from an everyday habit to a couple of times a month, and alcohol doesn't seem to physically agree with me anymore. I am also now completely dairy-free - and happier and healthier as a result. I should stress that there was nothing prescriptive in any of the treatment that brought on these changes - it was simply down to physiological reactions after the fact.
I will advise that if you're doing the detox programme, don't stay more than 7-10 days, unless you've ingested Polonium or something. Two weeks would have killed me, and other people were visibly flagging at this point. Bring a friend if you can, because boredom can be an issue, and no amount of books or internet will help with that.
Special mentions though for the juices and smoothies, fresh young coconuts on demand, the fitness centre with a panoramic view of the ocean, the pools, the beach, my awesome homeopath Duong (who made it really hard to be sceptical) and the chutzpah of the owner who manages to keep building and keeping everyone happy.
Remember that this isn't a holiday camp, but if you're after absolute serenity in beautiful surroundings with the highest level of service, then Kamalaya is for you. The detox program will make you think and feel differently about your health and digestion, your poisons and your persuasions.
